Storm's
Story
Storm was purchased approximately 2 years ago
at PetLand in southern Alberta. Like all pet stores, the
staff did not fully educate his buyers about all of the
idiosyncrasies of the Italian
Greyhound.
After his buyers had Storm, experienced IG
people tried to educate them. Obviously to no
success.
At some point in his life, Storm broke his
front leg. Sometime afterwards, the leg was amputated.
Whoever did the amputation did only a partial amputation, which
is very difficult for an Italian Greyhound to
manage.
A couple of weeks ago, his owners left him in
the overnight drop box at
the SPCA, with a note saying they did not want him any
more. Now, to give the SPCA credit, the drop boxes are in
an area protected
from the elements, which is a good thing as he was dropped off
during a very bad summer storm.
The SPCA contacted Cypress View Veterinary
Hospital, who gave them my name and number as an IG breeder who
might be able to help them. I was called by the SPCA so I
went to visit Storm.
My heart broke to see such a loving breed
abandoned so callously. And yet, Storm came out of his
cage, crawled up my lap and hugged me with his one leg.
He gently reached out and gave me kisses. My heart became
his instantly.
I had a lengthy conversation with the
hardworking staff at the SPCA and we all agreed... he was not
likely to be adopted out. Not when they had received 12
small dogs already that week, 12 dogs with 4 legs each.
His future was pretty bleak.
But there is never an IG in need whose call
goes unheeded by responsible IG breeders. If we know
about it, we put on our Superman capes and come to the
rescue. The SPCA kindly released Storm to rescue once his
mandatory waiting period was up (as if his owners would come
back for him!) He came to my house where he will stay
until he is finished with all procedures he will need to
improve his life.
Storm was neutered today. He needs to
have the amputation finished. He needs a dental.
All of this costs money.
The fabulous people who love Italian
Greyhounds have come up with this auction to raise funds for
Storm's procedures. Everything on these pages is donated
by individuals who care deeply for a dog they never
met.
Please bid on items you like.
If you wish to send a cash
donation, please email me for my mailing
address.
If you see nothing you like, or are
struggling financially yourself, please just offer him your good
thoughts or your prayers.
We thank you, I thank you, Storm thanks
you. Please take a moment to look at Storm's photos on
the next
page.
